Quality Control Mechanical Inspector (Defense/Aerospace)

 

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quality Control Mechanical Inspector to support precision manufacturing and assembly operations within a defense environment. This role is responsible for ensuring all mechanical components and assemblies meet stringent military, aerospace, and regulatory standards through rigorous inspection, testing, and documentation.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in complex mechanical systems, tight-tolerance inspection, and compliance with defense quality requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections on mechanical components and assemblies
  • Interpret and verify compliance to engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and military standards
  • Conduct inspections using precision tools such as:
    • Micrometers, calipers, height gauges
    • Optical comparators
    • CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine)
  • Validate conformance to:
    • AS9100 quality standards
    • MIL-STD requirements
  • Review and approve First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with AS9102
  • Identify, document, and disposition non-conformances (NCRs)
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier quality teams to resolve issues
  • Perform incoming inspection on supplier components and materials
  • Maintain detailed and accurate inspection records for traceability and audit readiness
  • Support internal and external audits, including DCMA and OEM customer audits

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical inspection within defense, aerospace, or high-reliability manufacturing
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
    • Blueprint and technical drawing interpretation
  • Hands-on experience with precision measurement equipment and CMM operation/programming
  • Deep understanding of:
    • AS9100 quality systems
    • AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements
    • MIL-STD specifications
  • Experience with tight tolerance machining and complex assemblies
  • Proficiency in inspection documentation and digital quality systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with:
    • Defense contractors or DoD programs
    • Composites, castings, or precision machined parts
  • Familiarity with:
    • ERP/MRP systems (e.g. Visual/Infor)
    • Digital inspection tools and reporting software
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Security Clearance

Requirements:

U.S. Citizen

High School Diploma or equivalent

Salary Range:  $38.00 per hour – $48.00 per hour 

This is an estimated salary range with any actual compensation offers to be dependent upon factors including experience, skill set, qualifications, and other factors allowed by law.
